Welcome to Liverpool District Angling Association

Liverpool & District Angling Association (L &D A A )was established in 1911, making it one of the oldest Angling Associations in the UK. Its headquarters is in Maghull Liverpool and members come from all over the north-west of England. The Association controls fishing rights on the Leeds Liverpool canal from the Saracens head in Halsall through to the Albert Dock in Liverpool. We also have sharing arrangements for stretches of the Shropshire Union Canal and River Weaver. Please visit the different sections of this website to find out more.

Chairman's report 2021

2020 has been an exceedingly difficult year for everybody. But fortunately, due to the efforts of the Angling Trust we have managed to keep our sport going for most of the time albeit in a somewhat restricted way.

Liverpool and District Angling Association has however remained busy during this time, and I am pleased to report large scale stocking of the Leeds Liverpool canal. We have stocked fish on three separate occasions each of more than a thousand pounds of fish these have been introduced in Haskayne Lydiate and Maghull. You can see some pictures of this in the gallery.

All the fish stocked have been paid for by the Association from the money we raise from licenses and matches we have not had fish or income from anywhere else. All monies raised are spent on stocking and fees to Canal and River Trust the Officers of the Association do not receive any money not even expenses. That is why it is important that everyone buys their license and supports the Association matches. We do not believe in keeping money in the bank we prefer to see fish in the water.

During the year we have developed good contacts with other Clubs and Associations and hope by working together to improve fishing for our members and theirs. As part of this we have now agreed a water sharing agreement with Port Sunlight Angling Club. This has added three new waters to those available to our members, two stretches of the Shropshire Union Canal and a stretch of the River Weaver. These new arrangements come into effect on 1st April 2021 and all you will need to fish the water is your Liverpool and District Membership.

Match Secretary Mike Dickson has done another great job in 2020, even running a virtual match to raise funds for Motor Neurone Disease in honour of our now sadly departed friend Barry Thomas. Mike has started work on the 2021 programme and has published details of the first two matches already, the full programme will be on the website soon. I have completed the plan for the Monday night series which has grown in popularity each year since we started running it and hopefully will do even better this year. Good Fishing for 2021 and remember to look after our waters and each other.

Best Wishes

Peter Gradwell
