Happy 2026 to all our members
Happy 2026 to all our members.
We continue to work on improving your fishing by spending all raised funds on stocking, bank clearing, and weed control. The latter remains a tough battle, and while we haven’t won in every area, we keep trying and regularly press the C&RT to do more in keeping our waters fishable.
For the last three years, including last year, we have stocked Tench in various stretches of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal. By spring 2025, we saw the benefits—many winning match weights were dominated by beautiful Tench, and pleasure anglers enjoyed excellent catches, particularly early morning. If you have a great catch, please email pictures; we’d love to feature them on the website.
2026 will bring some interesting changes to our usual programme. From mid-March, the regular mid-week match will move from Wednesday to Thursday. The draw will now be held at the Weld Blundell Arms at 9:30 AM—a venue popular for our larger matches—with the added benefit of their excellent breakfast available from 9 AM. The first Thursday match will be on 19th March 2025.
To offer a change of scenery, we will also run four consecutive silver fish matches on Wednesdays starting 18th February at Mescar Fisheries. The draw will be at Mescar at 9:30 AM, limited to 20 pegs, with pools set at £20. Booking is essential.
Last year, the Association sponsored two events valued at £1,000 each. We intend to continue sponsorship at the same level, but this year we are supporting the Individual League—already underway—with an added £1,000 to the prize fund. As in previous years, we will hold an all-winners final with a £1,000 prize plus pools on the day. The full diary will be published shortly on our Facebook page and then added to the match page on this site.
This year, we plan to continue stocking fish and have decided to increase our spending, though the species are yet to be determined.
We truly appreciate all your support and hope it continues.
Tight Lines!
All the best
